September 2024 Wrap-Up!
Hi Readers! You have to give me credit for at least this one thing – whether I read much or not, you will always see me posting these monthly wrapups! I feel like these help me reflect on the month, not only in terms of reading, but also who I met, if I did anything fun or if the month just flew by with nothing of consequence. So, thanks for being my reflections and digital journals!
~~BOOKS~
I read 3 BOOKS across 1218 PAGES in September, of which two were graphic novels.
~~BLANKETS by CRAIG THOMPSON~~
I had wanted to read Blankets for a long time, so I finally picked it up this month. I think I had high expectations, which is why, it felt a little disappointing. In a semi-autobiographical manner, it is a coming-of-age story revolving around Craig, his brother Phil and Craig’s girlfriend Raina. I liked the artwork because the raw emotions of loneliness as well as togetherness is drawn so wonderfully. I rated Blankets by Craig Thompson at 3/5 stars!
~~THE LIFE IMPOSSIBLE by MATT HAIG~~
The Life Impossible is the story where 72-year-old Grace Winters makes an unpredictable move to Ibiza, where her old friend Christina had left her a bungalow after her death. When Grace lands in Ibiza she tries to uncover the mystery of Christina’s death. This leads to meeting new people, exploring new places, doing things she never imagined she’d do. And at the centre of it all is magical realism. The plot was quite straightforward with a lovable but flawed septuagenarian woman going to a different country, uncovering the cause of her long-lost friend’s death, finding the culprits and all to preserve the ecology of the precious place in Ibiza. I absolutely loved this book and want to read everything that Matt Haig has written. I rated The Life Impossible by Matt Haig at 4/5 stars!
~~THE COMPLETE MAUS by ART SPIEGELMAN~~
Now, this is a book that everyone must read! This is another graphic novel in which the author has captured his father’s life story during the Holocaust. It comprises of two books, first one ‘My Father Bleeds History’ published in 1986 and second one ‘And Here My Troubles Began’ published in 1991. Reading this will undoubtedly make you cry and take you on an emotional ride. I rated Maus by Art Spiegelman at 5/5 stars.
