Top 10 TV Shows & Top 15 Movies of 2024 – Year in Review (Part 2)

Hi Watchers! You all know I love stories, be it in the form of books or movies or TV shows or any other media. It used to feel like an escape, but now it feels like reflection. There are always characters with whom I’m able to bond because of a similar world view, and there are always characters who teach me new things because of varied world views. Whether it is Inclusion, Acceptance, Empathy, or simply Communication. And, at other times, it’s still an escape, because why else would I watch horror movies or true crime documentaries? 😀

As I talked in the last post, I couldn’t read a lot because I had no emotional bandwidth. But, I somehow substituted reading with watching a lot of shows and movies. Since this is a more passive activity than reading, I found myself doing a lot more of it this year.

I watched 43 TV shows this year, most of which I enjoyed. I also rewatched my favorites: The Office, The Big Bang Theory, FRIENDS and Gilmore Girls. I’m quite proud of the fact that I kept my rewatching to a minimum this year, and instead explored new shows! I didn’t watch any Korean Drama this year, but I think the same logic of reading applies to K-dramas because you have to read the subtitles.

My favorites of the 10 would be One Day (Romance), Dark Matter (Science Fiction & Book to TV adaptation) and A Man on the Inside (Comedy & Wholesome)

The two which were the biggest disappointments were the second season of House of the Dragon and the third season of Bear. I have also been a fan of The Lincoln Lawyer, but season three was just so average. I also watched Nobody Wants This, and found it to be okay. I never get what the hype is all about.

The ones which happily surprised me were Fisk, Call Me Bae, Bad Sisters & Murder Mindfully.

I watched 91 movies this year! Grand, isn’t it? But, my choice of movies isn’t always great. Of these 91, I have only rated 18 movies above 8 stars. So, I’m either picking terrible ones or I’m being too critical of them.

Aside from the ones mentioned above, I also really enjoyed watching Past Lives, Laapataa Ladies, Good Grief, Molly’s Game, Challengers, Twisters, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Chandu Champion, CTRL, Khel Khel Mein & Agni.

The ones I was disappointed with were too many but the ones that top this list are Killer Heat, Phir Ayi Haseen Dilruba, A Family Affair, Anyone But You, Umma & Kantara.

I have watched too many Hindi films this year, all because my parents drag me out of my room and make me watch them. But, I must say most of those are actually better than the Hollywood ones. So, win-win, I guess.

And, of course, I rewatched a few movies: Harry Potter as usual, The Devil Wears Prada, Split series, You’ve Got Mail & The Holiday. Again, very few and very in control.
