Books Read in March 2023!

Hi Readers! March was super long and no uneventful. Among life’s ups and downs, my reading was quite interesting as well. I read FIVE BOOKS across 2016 PAGES! I absolutely loved four of those books and found one of them really intriguing.

~~CARRIE SOTO IS BACK by TAYLOR JENKINS REID~~

First of all, I am amazed at how Taylor Jenkins Reid can pick up any possible professional aspect and write a book on it in such a stunning way. It was music, then acting, then swimming and now with Carrie Soto, it’s Tennis! And, to make it even more delectable, the main character is always a woman. A flawed, brilliant, beautiful woman who doesn’t believe in her power but gains it by the end of the book. The sheer joy of reading these women has been so enthralling. I have rated Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid at 4.5/5 stars!

~~BEFORE YOUR MEMORY FADES by TOSHIKAZU KAWAGUCHI~~

I read Before Your Memory Fades almost two years after I read the first two books. It was so sweet to get back to this universe, kind of like returning home. The beauty and magic of the book hit me this time as well. In all of the stories, there is death involved. It’s either a person who has died who travels or for whom another person travels in time. And because death is such a sensitive topic, all the books are written with that sensitivity and ingenuity. All the messages are just so subtle and touch you deeply. They are relatable and despite the time travel factor, it’s just so raw and makes you think about how you are living your life and the changes that you might want to make to feel more connected to your loved ones. I have rated Before Your Memory Fades by Toshikazu Kawaguchi at 4.5/5 stars!

~~FINLAY DONOVAN JUMPS THE GUN by ELLE COSIMANO~~

This is another third book in a series! I loved reading Finlay Donovan is Killing It. Wasn’t a fan of Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead. But this one redeemed itself again. Loved being with these characters again. The plot was really interesting and kept me at the edge of my seat. I have rated Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano at 4/5 stars. ~~TRUST by HERNAN DIAZ~~

Trust was longlisted for the Booker Prize 2022. I’m usually not a fan of the Booker books but the premise of Trust reeled me in. The book is divided in four parts, all of which portrays one story from different angles. One is in the form of a fictional novel, second is a memoir, third is sort of a biography and fourth is in the form of diary entries. With such unreliable narrators, it’s up to you to decide which part to trust. I have rated Trust by Hernan Diaz at 3.5/5 stars. Review will be up soon.

~~THE WINNERS by FREDRIK BACKMAN~~

Another third book in a book series. This being the last book of the series, I was fully prepared to love it. But I have to admit that it was a struggle. Just like the second book, in this one as well there was a lot of repitition. There were short previews from the earlier books for all the characters, of which there are way too many. But characters are the one strong glue that held the whole book series together. Even though the plot is not inventive and might just be mediocre, it’s the characters you come back to and root for and cry with. I have rated The Winners by Fredrik Backman at 4.5/5 stars.
