Japanese Murder Mystery Book Recommendation: The Decagon House Murders
Hi Readers! If you follow me on Instagram, chances are that you have already read this super short book review. But, I always tend to come back here to read my thoughts on a particular book after a while I have read it. So, here we go. This is probably the shortest review I have ever written! Don’t get used to it, because you know how much I love to overshare my thoughts in 2000-word reviews, haha!
A book inspired by Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’.
An island which is a site of a quadruple murder.
Everything Decagon themed in the house on the island.
Students from a Mystery Club of a University plan to stay on that island for a week.
Soon one by one they get murdered.
Who is the murderer? Is it an inside job or an outside job? Is it revenge or just a sociopath?
I have read many Japanese murder mysteries by now. And this one is definitely a really good one. I loved all the characters. There are many of them, as is quite typical of Japanese mystery novels. The foundation and setting was excellent. The dual story line had me hooked. All those potential solutions and red herrings had me thinking who did it. The usage of nick names was fun. The ending was unpredictable, which is usually the case with these novels as against your usual mystery novels. That’s as good as it gets, isn’t it? I have rated The Decagon House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji at 4/5 stars!
Until next time,
