August 2025 Recap!

August has passed by with its roar of rain, thunderous laughter with family and friends, intense travel planning with everyone, mellow and grateful times at work, with the onset of all the festivals to follow!I also watched movies and TV shows at an insane level. Absolutely loved a few, and absolutely loathed a few. A gorgeous month with a lot of happenings all around, and while some aspects were slightly neglected than others, I think it turned out to be one of my favourite months of the year. Read more! ☺️🧿
~~BOOKS~~
I read 2 BOOKS across 495 PAGES in AUGUST! I participated in Discovering India Readathon on Bookstagram. It was also Women in Translation month. I had a TBR for it as well, from which I read just one. Both these readathons are towards reading Indian literature and literature written by women. So, though it’s amazing to have a dedicated spotlight on them, it’s always great to read them throughout the year and make it a fabric of my reading style. One of the books I read was Milk Teeth by Amrita Mahale, which I read for Discovering India Readathon. The second one was Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda, translated by Julia Sanches and Heather Cleary.
~~MILK TEETH by AMRITA MAHALE~~
Milk Teeth comes across as the story of Ira and Karthik. But, it’s a story about Mumbai told via Ira and Karthik. The city that never sleeps. The land of opportunity. Maximum City. Aamchi Mumbai. What no one talks about is the city and its people’s many flaws casually ignored and masked under the love for the city. The book portrays that with such brilliance that while those flaws could still be casually ignored by some readers, its nuance will hit the right kind of readers. I have rated Milk Teeth by Amrita Mahale at 4.5/5 stars!
~~RESERVOIR BITCHES BY DAHLIA DE LA CERDA, TRANSLATED by JULIA SANCHES and HEATHER CLEARY~~
When we live a sheltered life, we take so much for granted. But, reading books across borders really helps to understand the truth about different cultures, economic backgrounds, ages and occupations. The theme of this book is clear from page one: Violence on Women. Each story, inter-linked, is a story about indifference towards hate, cruelty, violence to women’s lives and deaths, particularly in Mexico. The language is unpolished, straight shooting, gruelling and will leave you in a state of shocked silence. The crimes; murder, rape, mutilation, torture, are written without holding anything back. The writing is almost as horrid as the actual state of the crimes. It’s not for the faint hearted. I have rated Reservoir Bitches written by Dahlia de la Cerda, translated by Julia Sanches and Heather Cleary at 3.5/5 stars!
