Books Read in October 2021!

Hi Readers! October flew by & I am very happy with the amount of reading I got done this month! I read SIX BOOKS in October! In 2021, I have now read 57 BOOKS! And, from my 2021 Reading Challenge, I have read 47 BOOKS, so 3 more to read from the challenge – 1 Historical Fiction, 1 Biography & 1 Romance Novel. I really hope I complete all 3 of these in November itself! Here’s hoping! Well, check out the books I read in October. I have rated them all above 3 stars, so no criticisms in this post (for a change!)

~~THE WAY OF KINGS by BRANDON SANDERSON~~

Brandon Sanderson is one of the most well-known authors in the fantasy fiction genre. His series The Stormlight Archive came highly recommended to me by my brother. This series is supposed to be 10 books, divided into 2 parts of 5 books each. So far, only 4 books are released. I read the first one, The Way of Kings which was a 1000-page book! It sure took me long enough to finish it. There was a lot of world-building, basic foundation to be set & so many characters to get used to. It took me more than 600 pages to finally really GET INTO IT! I was thrilled during the latter part of the book & I could envision the big picture that awaited in the rest of the books. Even though I have taken a break after reading this one, I cannot wait to get back to it! I have rated The Way of Kings at 4/5 Stars!

~~NAME PLACE ANIMAL THING by DARIBHA LYNDEM~~

This book is shortlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature 2021. I always play this game with my siblings & my aunt. We played it when we were kids & it started a tradition, so we play it even now in our 20s! That’s the main reason I was drawn to reading the book. I had also read the blurb which made me want to read it. Well, it wasn’t great, but it was something. This is a coming-of-age story of a girl based in Shillong. The first chapter intrigued me, because there was a hidden message behind the entire story. But, as it progressed, the subtle meanings & powerful between the sentences impact was completely missing. It was a short book with only a few chapters, which made reading it simpler. I have rated it at 3.5/5 Stars!

~~THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by TJ KLUNE~~

The House in the Cerulean Sea is a heartfelt novel which even though it is a fantasy fiction novel has a lot of teachings. It has a plainly predictable story line, but because of the wonderful writing, you ignore it & just go with the flow! I have rated it at 4/5 stars.

~~WEIRD THINGS CUSTOMERS SAY IN BOOKSHOPS & MORE WEIRD THINGS CUSTOMERS SAY IN BOOKSHOPS by JEN CAMPBELL~~

I went on a mini vacation this month. My plan was to read Ariadne by Jennifer Saint or to read Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. But, I was not able to concentrate at all. Instead I read these 2 books with some graphic content. They were hilarious & I really enjoyed reading them. I have rated both of them at 3.5/5 stars!

~~KIM JIYOUNG, BORN 1982 by CHO NAM-JU~~

I had this book on my TBR for a short time. I am glad I picked it up sooner rather than later. It’s a book that everyone should read at least once in their life. It talks about gender inequality & discrimination in Korea. It follows the story of Kim Jiyoung from her childhood to parenthood. We see how women are treated differently, even today. Right from their birth to their upbringing, education, career or lack of it, treatment at the workplace & so much more. This book pointed out every possible way in which women are mistreated in the society. The writing is fierce, impactful & you cannot help but feel a loss after reading this. The massive anger about being discriminated is written with such brilliance that the anger comes across but in the most impactful ways. This is the second book that I have rated at 5/5 stars this year. If you haven’t read it yet, please go & read it right away!

So, that sums it all up! 6 books in October, and I enjoyed reading every single one of them, in varying degrees. What was your October like? How much reading did you get done? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,
