Books Read in October 2022!
Hi Readers! October is done! Two more months till 2023! How are we already here?
October was a lot better than September reading-wise. I had more work than I did in September, but somehow I got better at time management. It is also partly because there were holidays which I utilized for reading books & writing reviews. I read FIVE BOOKS across 2009 PAGES in OCTOBER! The major task was completing To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara. After that, I read a murder mystery, which was easy to read through quickly & then another book which I read in one day. Another graphic novel which took an hour. And lastly, another murder mystery which I finished just today. None of these books were exceptional, but I enjoyed most of them. Check them out!
~~TO PARADISE by HANYA YANAGIHARA~~
It took me 2 months to read this book & another month to write its review. What a feeling it was to complete a 700-page-book novel. Whether you love it or hate it, it always feels amazing just because you accomplished this big feat! Well, in this case, I didn’t much like the book. I liked Book One and Part Two of Book Two. This accounts for less than half of the book. Book Three which is actually the half of the entire book was not my cup of tea. I did not enjoy it at all. I have rated To Paradise by Hanya Yanagihara at 3/5 stars.

~~THE BULLET THAT MISSED by RICHARD OSMAN~~
This is the third book in The Thursday Murder Club series. I loved being with the oldies again, but aside from them, there were way too many new character introductions. This took some of the limelight away from the originals. The story was interesting & unpredictable. But, given that this is the third book, a certain level of similarities are obvious. I have rated The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman at 3.5/5 stars.

~~IT STARTS WITH US by COLLEEN HOOVER~~
This is the sequel to Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us, which is a TikTok and Bookstagram favourite. I really surprised myself with this one. You all know that I am not one who ships two people, let alone read romance novels. I have also hated more Colleen Hoover books than the ones I have liked. But but but. Lily & Atlas. I will read ten more books if it’s Lily & Atlas! This book is solely for Lily & Atlas fans. Ignoring the critic in me, I have rated It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover at 4.5 stars.

~~ANYA’S GHOST by VERA BROSGOL~~
This graphic novel was a short, sweet & spooky one. It had themes of self-identity, insecurities, self-worth, body image. And, it also came with a ghost to keep the overall theme light yet subtle. I have rated Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol at 3/5 stars.
~~DEATH ON GOKUMON ISLAND by SEISHI YOKOMIZO~~
This was my fourth book by Seishi Yokomizo. I have to admit that the idea of a Japanese murder mystery sounds a lot better than actually reading it. Being from a different nation and culture, some things along the story are just too hard to visualize. I think because I couldn’t understand the exact meaning of some things, I struggled with these books. And also because of this, my brain is not trying to decipher who the murderer could be, but instead trying to understand what exactly are the mechanics of a temple bell. Anyway, I have rated Death on Gokumon Island by Seishi Yokomizo at 3/5 stars.
I am yet to review this, but please read the full review of the earlier three books here!
~~OCTOBER READING STATS~~
So, that was my October. For November, I plan to read at least a few nonfiction books as part of the #NonfictionNovember challenge, similar to last year. How was your month?
Until next time,
